La bohème; Act 1

Twas a quick and pleasant stopover in the Czech Republic, or Czechia as it should be known.

The first of two towns that we visited was Olomouc, the historical capital of Moravia.

It's a very pretty town with several cool fountains, this one is of Julius Caesar who it is said founded Olomouc.

The astronomic clock, rebuilt after the war, based on the 15th century design.

Driving through the Czech countryside was really beautiful. It's been especially nice for us this year to observe the significant changes in the landscape through the seasons, something we see little of in Sydney.

We then spent two nights and a day in the picturesque fairytale town of Český Krumlov (In Bohemia).

An introduction to the culture consisted of slivovice...

and a traditional feast.

Some more pretty views of the pretty town

Inside the  town's castle are the usual jewels, portraits and impressive halls

but also a wealthy skeleton

and a bear pit.

The view from the castle

We spent the afternoon floating downstream.

We'll be back in the Czech Republic at the end of our trip, but if this small taste is anything to go by, it will be delicious.
