A Fistful of Baguettes

December 31st 2011 marked exactly six years since Josh and Yaz became Josh and Yaz. To celebrate we went to six UNESCO world heritage sites in one day. As pictured below these were, the historical centre of Bruges, the Town Hall and Belfry of Ypres, the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Tournai, Vauban's Citadel in Arras, the Amiens Cathedral & the banks of the Seine.

We spent New Year's Eve in Paris which was really fun until midnight and then terrible. There were 4 fireworks and the Eiffel tower light show would barely interest a moth. We took four and half hours to get home which included two hours before finding a desperately needed toilet. We did however get this photo.

We'll be back in Paris to see it properly in March, but we left on New Year's Day for the Loire. In Orleans we went to a nice park.

But the highlight was Chateaux hopping.

Château de Chenonceau

Château of Azay-le-Rideau

We spent a day in La Rochelle which has a pretty harbour and some old towers.

Yaz watched the sunset...

while Josh just took photos.

Next up, Bordeaux. A cool city with grand buildings and wine.

We also went to Saint-Émilion where they make wine out of grapes. But we don't like wine so we left empty-bellied.

Finally we visited the Marche du Capuchins in Bordeaux to buy some lunch.

We ignored the weird animals, bought a baguette, some cheese and pate, before heading to Biarritz to enjoy it.

P.S. Did you know that French people can simultaneously get healthy through exercise and slowly kill themselves with poison?

  1. Salut, kids! Am loving the blog, and Josh, your photos are looking awesome. Yasmin, why is your scary/growly face not so scary/growly?! Dunno if you've listened to any of those podcasts, but we saw Ira Glass here for the Sydney Festival, and he was... 'ow do you say, l'awesome!
